Position measurement by potentiometric sensors

The position is determined by a potentiometer (2) voltage measurement. An input digital signal (E) provides an information position output (S), either analogue, or digital. A digital/analogue converter (4) converts the digital input signal to an analogue square wave signal for transmission to the potentiometer. The square wave signal from the potentiometer is demodulated (10) and then analogue filtered (12). An analogue/digital converter (14) converts the demodulated filtered output to a digital signal which is then treated (16) to determine the position information. A sequence unit (6) synchronises the acquisition of the analogue/digital demodulated signal with the square wave modulated signal. The potentiometer may form a bridge, two arms (2a) providing a reference voltage and the other two (2b), the voltage to be measured.
