PURPOSE: To provide such a fire spread-retardant cable that even when combustion starts, combustion can be suppressed within a certain range and fire spreading can be prevented, and that the cost and weight can be decreased. CONSTITUTION: The cable main body 10 is coated with a sheath 11 comprising a flammable material such as polyvinyl and polyethylene. Further, plural numbers of cylindrical combustion-preventing members 12 comprising a flame- retardant resin are assembled around the sheath 11 in such a manner that the members 12 are disposed at a certain distance along the longitudinal direction of the cable 10 (shown as arrow A in the figure) to press the whole periphery of the cable 10. When the sheath 11 which is flammable is burned by some factors and the flame of burning spreads in the longitudinal direction of the cable 10, the flame reaches the fire spread preventing members 12 comprising a fire spread retardant resin on both sides of the flame. Since the fire spread preventing members 12 are annularly fitted to the surface of the sheath 11, the flame is gradually weakened by the members 11 and finally extinguished. Therefore, fire spreading to other facilities or structures can be prevented. |
