Vaccine contg. an antigen absorbed on alum or formulated in an alum-contg. compsn. and having greater immunogenicity than known vaccines contains 2-120 mu g/kg body wt. or 0.1-6 mg/dose of a muramyl peptide of formula (I) or MDP-Lys-GDP (II, NAc-Mur-L- Lys-D-isoGln-glyceryl-sn-dipalmitoyl). R = H or Me; X = L-Ala or L-Thr, and R1,R2 = OH, NH2 or 1-4C alkoxy, /-1 must be alkoxy when X = L-Ala. Also claimed is a method for the prepn. of a vaccine as above.
