发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL LIGHT MODULATION ELEMENT
摘要 PURPOSE: To reduce the manufacturing cost, to increase the image plane brightness, and to realize a clear high accutacy of display, by making a substrate opposite to the light incident direction, of two opposing sheets of substrates, in a light untransmissive condition. CONSTITUTION: Between a transparent plastic substrate 8A having a light transmissive electrode 3 of an indium-tin-oxide(ITO) formed in a linear form parallel to a paper surface at a specific pitch, and forming an orientation film 2 which consists of a polyvinylalcohol thereover; and a black color system plastic substrate 8B having a light reflecting type electrode 9 of a three-layer structure such as a chromium-aluminum-chromium, and forming an orientation film 2 thereover; a liquid crystal 5 is sealed. To the light reflecting type electrode 9, a diffuse reflection process is applied so as to give an uneven form to the surface. Since the substrate 8B at the opposite side to the light incident direction, of the two opposing sheets of substrates 8A and 8B, is made in a light untransmissive condition in such a way, a leaking light in the clearance between electrodes in the dark condition is not absorbed by the substrate 8B, and a display image plane with a high contrast ratio can be obtained.
