PURPOSE: To specify the kind of an unknown material even when the characteristic X-ray spectrum of the material is not known. CONSTITUTION: In a known data storing section 2, a plurality of known peak data respectively corresponding to the characteristic X-ray spectra of a plurality of known materials are stored. When the unknown peak data corresponding to the characteristic X-ray spectrum of an unknown material is inputted through an input section, an arithmetic section 6 collates the unknown peak data with the plurality of known peak data read from the storing section 2 and outputs the information about the kind of the material specified based on collated results from an output section 7. |
