PURPOSE: To increase accuracy in the measurement of the film thickness of an image carrier, to achieve the correct detection of the need for the replacement of the image carrier or a process cartridge A including the image carrier and to prevent trouble in a device main body and control part even in case the replacement of the image carrier or cartridge is neglected even though the film thickness of the image carrier has extremely decreased, in an image forming device which makes the image carrier form an image by the application of an image forming process and subjects it to image formation repeatedly. CONSTITUTION: The device equipped with a current detection means 12, which detects a current signal flowing in the image carrier when the image carrier 1 is electrified or destaticized, a temperature/humidity detection means 14, which detects the temperature and/or humidity in the main body of the device, and an image-carrier film thickness judging means 10, which judges the thickness of the film of the image carrier from the current signal detected by the current detection means 12 and the output of the temperature/humidity detection means 14. When the film thickness of the image carrier 1 is less than or equal to a preset level, the device main body is stopped or an image forming operation cannot be done. |
