PURPOSE: To provide a fuel cell which prevents reduction of solid electrolyte and has high output density by constituting the air electrode side of a rare earth system perovskite oxide in a perovskite oxide on a fuel side surface of cerium oxide solid electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: Solid electrolyte of a high temperature fuel cell is mainly composed of an oxide ion conductive cerium oxide having a fluorite structure. It is desirable that this solid electrolyte is composed of a material by substituting a cerium oxide or its 1 to 30mol% with an oxide of alkaline earth metal or a rare earth element as solid solution. A fuel side surface of this solid electrolyte is constituted of a proton-oxide ion mixed conductive perovskite oxide mainly composed of an oxide of alkaline earth metal and cerium oxide. On the other hand, its air electrode side is constituted of a rare earth system perovskite oxide. Therefore, cerium oxide in the solid electrolyte is prevented from being reduced on the fuel electrode side using fuel such as H2 , and reduction in open circuit voltage is prevented. |
