PURPOSE: To enhance adhesion by a sealing compound between a first and a second transparent substrate without impairing optical, physical and chemical characteristics as a protective film. CONSTITUTION: After color filters 33R, 33G and 33B in a plurality of colors have been formed in the picture element areas of a first transparent substrate 11 partitioned by a black matrix 33D, coating solution 23a composed of an organic resin is applied to cover the filters in a plurality of colors, after it has been cured, a molecular layer composed of molecules low in molecular weight, which exists in the uppermost surface of an organic resin film 23b, is removed so as to be formed into a protective film 23. A first transparent electrode 21 and a first orientation film are laminated over the protective film 23, after that, a second transparent substrate is piled up thereon, a liquid crystal layer is then injected therein, and sealing is performed while an organic sealing agent 52 is being interposed between the protective film 23 and the second transparent substrate. |
