PURPOSE: To provide an uniaxial orientation polyacene film high in a dichroism ratio and its manufacture, polarizing elements high in performance composed of the polyacene film and a liquid crystal display device employing the polarizing elements. CONSTITUTION: The thickness of each film where polyacene represented at least by one kind of a formula is uniaxially oriented, is equal to or more than 1nm and less than 1μm, and the value of its dichroism ratio in the wavelength at its absorption peak is equal to or more than 10. In the formula, n represents the integers of 2 to 10. Polarizing elements composed of panes of glass or high polymer films, which are provided with orientation polyacene film or panes of glass with transparent electrodes are provided. Moreover, the liquid crystal display device is also provided, which comprises the aforesaid polarizing elements disposed at the outside of a liquid crystal cell in between paired transparent substrates including the transparent electrodes wherein the liquid crystal cell is so constituted that each molecular major axis is in parallel with each substrate, its spiral axis is normal to each substrate, and its structure is twisted in each molecular axis between an angle equal to or more than 90 deg. and an angle less than 270 deg.. |
