摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize thermal gradients in an article by applying a second layer of a thermally conductive material having a comparatively higher thermal conductivity and a first layer of a thermally conductive material having a comparatively lower thermal conductivity to an article such that the second layers are mixed and are distributed among the first layers. SOLUTION: A second layer 16 of a thermally conductive material (e.g. nickel alumid) having thermal conductivity of 20 Btu.in/hv.ft<2> . deg.F or less and a first layer 14 of a thermally conductive material (e.g. yttria stable zirconia) having thermal conductivity of 100 Btu.in/hv.ft<2> . deg.F or more are applied to the surface 18 of an aricle (e.g. blade) such that the second layers are mixed and distributed among the first layers. The first layer 14 is inferior to the second layer 16 in a sepecial temperature. Accordingly, conduction of thermal energy through the layers is impeded by low thermal conductivity of the first layer 14, and dispersed substantially laterally by high thermal conductivity of the second layer 16. Thus, the thermal gradient in the article 10 can be minimized.
