PURPOSE: To obtain an optical pickup device and a track counting method capable of eliminating error of track count. CONSTITUTION: One piece or more of new laser beams 16 are provided in the circumferential direction of an optical recording medium 1 in addition to the laser beam 16 for data read, and at least one piece or more of any laser beams 16 are arranged so as to be converged on a pit string 2, and a detection means capable of respectively individually detecting respective laser beams 16 modulated and reflected by the pit string 2 is provided. Since any one piece or more of laser beams 16 among plural laser beams 16 are converged on the pit string 2 of the optical recording medium 1, and moreover, respective reflected laser beams 16 are detected individually, a chevron signal waveform used at a track count time is secured by synthesizing respective signal waveforms, and the error of the track count is eliminated. |
