摘要 PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for driving a plasma display panel capable of display in high contrast. CONSTITUTION: A lighting state of priming discharge is constituted by 1st, 2nd, ..., nth subfields of a display area 1 in the plasma display panel. The panel is driven to execute the priming discharge in at least every one subfield or more and every cell 2 of the subfield(s). The discharge is so carried out, for example, that data count of the priming discharge for each subfield is counted, and the priming discharge is performed on each cell 2 of the subfield. In this process, by properly combining a data electrode and a scan electrode, a pulse voltage to be impressed upon the individual cells and the execution of the priming discharge are freely constituted to be present or absent, and the number of times of substantial priming discharge is reduced, thus enhancing the contrast of the display.
