PURPOSE: To provide a method for manufacturing a carbon heating element that contains very little metal impurity and is excellent in material strength and heating characteristic. CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin liquid, composed mainly of a phenol resin with a viscosity of 1 to 100 poise and containing 50wt.% or more resin components, is prepared by mixing furan or its derivative compound in a phenol resin purified by decompression distillation and having a molecular weight of 100 or more and a gelation time of 5 to 60 minutes. The thermosetting resin liquid is subjected to preliminary setting process in an oxidizing atmosphere of 10 to 70% oxygen concentration by injection into an easily parting, flexible molding die of a predetermined shape, and this preliminarily set resin molding is parted from the molding die and set by heating. Then the molding is subjected to baking carbonization process in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at temperatures of 800 deg.C and higher. |
