In a control system for the pump of a water-heating plant, which serves in a first mode to heat circulated heating water and in a second mode to heat water for consumption as required, the pump output is automatically controllable in dependence upon the current mode of operation. As described, when the plant operates in the second mode the pump is operated at maximum output; and when the plant operates in the first mode the pump initially operates at the maximum level until a timer 14 operates a relay 12, whereupon the pump operates at a lower level selected by a switch 1. <IMAGE>
