PURPOSE: To make a terminal equipment small by discriminating whether the mode is a dial mode or a registration mode based on a key to be pressed succeedingly after an abbreviation/registration key is operated and the abbreviation number is entered to set the mode thereby eliminating the need for individual provision of the abbreviation key and the registration key and reducing a key arrangement space. CONSTITUTION: The terminal equipment is provided with an abbreviation dial storage means 7 storing an abbreviation number entered by a key entry means 1 and its telephone number with cross reference. When a dial control means (main control section 12 and dialing circuit 11) detects the operation of a speech key 2 while an abbreviation number is entered in succession to the operation of an abbreviation/registration key 4, the control means reads a telephone number corresponding to the abbreviation number from the abbreviation dial storage means 7 and makes dialing. Furthermore, when the dial control means (main control section 12 and dialing circuit 11) detects the operation of the abbreviation/registration key 4 or the dial key while the abbreviation number is entered in succession to the operation of the abbreviation/registration key 4, the control means sets the registration mode of the abbreviation dialing.
