The device (100) receives a television signal containing a video signal (V), and a pair of audio carriers (S1,S2) containing respective audio signals (A1), with a video demodulator (105a) for the video signal and an audio demodulator (105b) for the first audio signal (A1). An audio suppression circuit (106) allows suppression of the first audio signal in response to an audio suppression signal (SM2), the audio carrier separation circuit (109) providing the second audio carrier coupled to an audio carrier suppression circuit (111), operated in conjunction with the audio suppression. A modulation circuit allows the video signal to be combined with the output of the audio carrier separation circuit and a carrier modulator (107) receiving the output from the audio suppression circuit.
