The oxygen probe consists of two concentric tubes where the inner one is closed to the oven atmosphere and contains a heater element. The probe is used for simultaneous measurement of nitrogen number and partial oxygen pressure in a nitrous atmosphere, where the Zirconium dioxide end of the probe is immersed in the gas. The Zirconium dioxide material protects the heater element from corrosion by the nitrous atmosphere. The measurement electrodes for nitric level and partial oxygen pressure are at the same temperature.
