A retractable gate assembly (1) that can be mounted either on or recessed within a wall. The assembly (1) preferably having an alarm system to notify others that the gate (2) is being touched. The gate assembly (1) is most commonly used as a baby/gate (2) at the top and bottom of stairwells or at kitchen entrances to avoid injury. The gate assembly (1) is also used as a pet/gate (2).
