The ends of plastic sections (1, 2, 19, 20) are welded by heating them and pressing them together. A first positioning device (21, 29, 38) moves one section (1) along an x-axis while a second positioning device (23, 31, 40) moves a second section (2) along a y-axis. The positioning jaws (21-28) are pref. driven through screws (29-37) by electric motors (38-40). Displacement and force transducers are connected to a control computer. The sides (1, 2, 19, 20) are moved together till they contact a spacer placed in the mitre joints. Pref. the position is stored in the computer and the spacers are replaced by heating blades to bring the ends up to welding temperature. Pref. the blades are then removed and the ends are pressed together with a force and displacement calculated by the computer. |
