The sheet is straightened in a roll straightening device with an upper row (5) and lower row (6) of straightening rolls, of which at least one row is adjustable. Rolls (5a-f, 6a-f) have diameters increasing singly or in pairs up to a dia. which is adequate in size for the torque to be transmitted and the straightening force required for the thickest sheet to be processed.
