The pivoting device for a handling unit such as a robot, has a double rack (12,13) arrangement operating with a pinion (14) located on a shaft (15). The rack forms the piston rod for pneumatic piston-cylinder units (4,9,13,5,10,12) in the housing (1). A pivoting restraint (22) fixed to the shaft is located outside the housing. The restraint has a projection (24) extending into the housing, and the rotation switching unit is located between a part (25,38) of the housing and the restraint projection. This allows the pneumatic pressure lines (28,29,34,35) to run only in the housing, and the restraint and its projection, but not in the shaft.
