The invention relates to a method for steady feeding of flat mail for separation by suction of material input in a distributing unit, using a feeding mechanism, preferably comprising an isolating blade under which is provided a conveyor belt. The invention proposes that the thickness of the mail removed is measured inside a main control circuit (HR). The feeding mechanism moves the pile (SS) of mail by said thickness in the direction of the suction separation system. The pressure of the pile is measured outside the suction separation system in a static compensation control circuit (KR) and is readjusted by moving the feeding mechanism within the permissible pile pressure range.
