The gas generator has a filter chamber (5). At least a part of the filter is made of spiral metal wool or a compound of spiral metal wool with other materials such as glass fibres, carbon fibres, ceramic fibres, plastics fibres. Where a burner chamber (4) is connected to a filter chamber through outlet orifices covered by a filter-like flame screen at least one layer of the screen is made from the metal spiral wool or compound of same with other fibres. The metal wool or compound also serves to cool the gases flowing through.
