The light pulse generator consists of an optical loop, a pumping light source and a controller for an optical switch. The optical loop consists of a light mixer, a light isolator, an Erbium-doped light waveguide, a light valve and a light splitter. The light source supplies light to the optical loop via the light mixer. The controller switches the optical switch by a positive edge of a control signal to increase the proportion of light passed by the switch. The duration of the control signal is the period of a light impulse through the optical loop.
