<p>The surgical suturing device of the present invention has a tubular elongated shaft (2) terminating into a jaw assembly (20) at the distal end and a handle assembly (10) at the proximal end thereof. The jaw assembly includes a first jaw member (21) pivotally connected to a second jaw member (22). An actuator rod (4) extending longitudinally within the length of said shaft is pivotally connected at its distal end to said jaw assembly. The underside of the first jaw is provided with a cupped recess (23) having a wheel assembly (24) therein. The wheel assembly includes a needle mount (26) for securably retaining a needle (5) and is configured such that the needle lies within the cupped recess when the jaw members are closed and can be deployed in a protracted position away from the first jaw member when the jaw members are in an open position.</p> |
