A continuous mining device has a formed mining track, a formed conveying track, and an endlessly circulating working chain to which conveying elements and cutter elements are fixed which are guided over return stations, at least one of which is at the same time constructed as a drive station. The drive station 1 comprises a conical return pulley 2, a driving chain wheel 6 disposed in the return pulley 2 coaxially with the return pulley axis 5, a bevel wheel gearbox 7 having the return pulley 2 mounted therein on a pulley journal 8, and an electric motor drive. Mining picks 10, disposed on the floorwall side, of the cutter elements 4 protrude in the region of the return pulley 2 beyond the horizontal projection of the return pulley 2 and of the gearbox 7. The return pulley axis 5 is inclined to the vertical to such an extent that the mining picks 10, disposed on the floorwall side, of the cutter elements 4 excavate the floorwall in a cutting free region in the lowest region of their circulating path round the return pulley 10. Runners are disposed on the machine frame of the drive station which sink into the cutting free region.
