Function testing of electronically controlled braking system of commercial or goods vehicle

The method uses a central control unit with at least one microcomputer and at least two further control units spatially separated from the central control unit, for brake actuation. The control units exchange information and data via a communication system. To test the functioning of the system, the brake actuating control units detect a common operating parameter and feed it to a control unit, particularly the central control unit. An error is detected in a region of at least one control unit when the operating parameter impermissible differs from a reference value. The further control units may be pressure regulating modules associated with the brake cylinders. The detected operating parameter may be e.g. the operating voltage, the brake pressure in the cylinder, the braking moment, the braking force or other braking effect. The reference value may be formed e.g. from the average value, the max. or min. value of the operating parameter values.
