The invention relates to an interior light for motor vehicles which is inserted into a supporting strap or pull handle whose two ends each have a cap which can be securely connected to the vehicle body. The light emerges from the intermediate element which is arranged between the two caps, is of hollow construction and is of partially transparent design. In at least one cap, a filament lamp is inserted to which a reflector and/or lens which collects the light at a focal point are assigned. In the intermediate element of the supporting strap a waveguide is arranged which with its end face which faces the filament lamp lies approximately at the focal point of the reflector or of the lens and which is provided with reflection means on the longitudinal side facing away from the light exit direction.
