PURPOSE: To improve startability of a miller cycle speak ignition engine by delaying ignition timing to a position close to an upper dead center during a compression stroke at a crank angle. CONSTITUTION: A piston 2 is connected to a crankshaft via a connecting rod 3. An air intake valve 4 is provided in the air intake port 6 of a cylinder head 1, an exhaust valve 5 is provided in an exhaust port 7 and a spark plug 8 is attached between the air intake valve 4 and the exhaust valve 5 and connected to an ignition device by a high tension code 9. Then, the ignition timing of the ignition device is delayed to a position close to an upper dead center during a compression stroke at a crank angle. Thus, since it is eccessively compressed by 15 deg. at the crank angle in the compression before ignition starting, the temperature of an fuel-air mixture is increased making ignition easier and startability is improved. |
