The invention concerns the novel use of a vitamin of the K group or a substance influencing the transport of a vitamin of the K group, or a substance activating the regeneration of a vitamin of the K group in order to produce a preparation which is active against an accelerated loss of cognitive faculties, in particular against the effects of Alzheimer's disease. In order to produce a preparation for assessing the risk of an accelerated loss of cognitive faculties or Alzheimer's disease occurring, the invention further proposes the use of a substance which can determine the concentration of vitamin K in the blood or other body fluids, the use of a substance which can determine the portion of carboxylated glutamate groups in vitamin K-dependent proteins in blood or other body fluids, and the use of a substance which can determine the concentration of gamma -carboxy glutamate in blood or other body fluids or in excretions. |
