PURPOSE: To obtain highly reliable printed matter showing excellent water resistance even on plain paper by a method wherein a plurality of printing modes are set so as to change the granting forms of a printability improving liquid in response to printing mode. CONSTITUTION: Image data are inputted from a host computer to a buffer receive 401 and then transferred to and stored in a memory section 403 under the controlling of a CPU 402. A mechanical. controlling section 404 drives a mechanical section 405 by the command sent from the CPU 403. A printing head controlling section 410 controls the amount of ink discharged from the printing head controlled by the section 410. Then, the section 410 controls the temperature of the same controlling head as mentioned above, which is given to liquid drops at one time discharging of them. When printing is carried out through four passes, for example, the more the number of passes in multipass becomes, the less the discharge of printability improving liquid is made and the kind of the improving liquid is optimized and the discharge per unit area of material to be printed is controlled in response to whether monochrome or color so as to obtain a high quality picture image. |
