PURPOSE: To surely and industrially advantageously obtain highly filling silicon nitride powder capable of making high-concentration and low-viscosity in a slurry formation, capable of increasing density of a molded material, having increased sintering ability and giving a sintered material having high-strength and excellent dimensional accuracy. CONSTITUTION: In producing silicon nitride powder from metallic silicon powder by a direct nitriding method, copper or a copper compound in an amount of 0.8-2 times eq., reduced to copper to oxygen contained in the raw material metallic silicon powder, is added to the metallic silicon powder and subjected to nitriding reaction to obtain the objective highly filling silicon nitride powder. |
