The present invention provides a biological solution for controlling weeds of the family Chenopodiaceae in crops, but especially for the annual herbaceous weed Chenopodium album. In particular, the invention relates to a method of selectively controlling the weed Chenopodium album in crops, which comprises applying a herbicidally effective amount of the fungal pathogen Ascochyta caulina to the said weed plants, the seeds or seedlings thereof or the crop area. The invention further relates to strains of Ascochyta caulina that can be suitably used within the context of the present invention as mycoherbicides for controlling Chenopodium album in crops and to compositions comprising the same. |
