PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new base of salicylidene type bearing a specific substituent on ortho site relative to the OH group on its benzene ring, highly effective as a ligand for an asymmetric complex catalyst in obtaining an optically activeα-acyloxyketone through asymmetric oxidation of an enol ester. CONSTITUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I [X<1> is i-propyl, sec-butyl or t-butyl; X<2> is H, a halogen, 1-10C alkoxyl, etc.; R<1> is a (1-10C alkoxyl etc.-substituted) 1-6C alkyl, (1-10C alkoxyl-substituted) phenyl, etc.; R<2> is a (1-10C alkoxyl- or 1-4C alkyl-substituted) phenyl; * denotes an asymmetric carbon atom], e.g. (S)-N-(3-t-butyl-5-methyl)salicylidene-2-amino-1,1-di-(5-t- butyl-2-methoxyphenyl)-3-phenyl-1-propanol. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction between a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III.
