Control blade servicing assembly

An assembly 36, 82, 114 for servicing a cruciform control blade 10 includes a carriage 38 having first and second crossarms 40, 42 each containing a generally U-shaped slot 50, 60 for receiving the top 20 of the control blade 10. The first crossarm 40 includes a clamping actuator 62 to rigidly clamp the carriage 38 to the blade top 20. The second crossarm 42 includes a tool 68, 94 positionable adjacent to a roller aperture 26 in a selected one of the four panels 12-18 of the control blade 10. The tool 68, 94 is positioned on the second crossarm 42 at a predetermined depth, and at a predetermined lateral span from the first crossarm 40 so that upon mounting of the carriage 38 on the blade top 20 and actuation of the clamping actuator 62, the tool 68, 94 is vertically and laterally aligned with a center of the panel roller aperture 26. In one embodiment, the tool 68 is effective to sever the roller 28 from the panel aperture without damaging the panel, and in another embodiment the tool 94 is effective for installing a replacement spacer pad 84 in the aperture 26.
