The lens effect is observed for light passing through the fibre. The optical fibre (1) is coated with a protective carbon layer (7), whereby the lens effect for the fibre is small compared with that for a fibre without a carbon layer. A similar optical fibre without any protective carbon layer is used, both fibres being placed near one another and simultaneously observed in thoroughgoing light from the same light bundle, the lens effect being observed and compared for light passing through both fibres. The observation is made for a fibre in a plane, which is at right-angles to the light coming into the fibre, is parallel with the fibre longitudinal axis and passes in the vicinity of the breaking together line, which is obtained on the basis of the fibre cover (5) lens effect. |
