The rollable fabric (1) of polyethylene strands (2) is interwoven with several e.g. stainless steel longitudinal conducting wires (4), equal lengths of alternate wires being exposed, in parallel, on each side, to form a regularly repeating pattern. These metallic elements are connected together at regular intervals by transverse conducting loops (5) passing across them, through, or round the edges of, the fabric, and back, again crossing them, to a meeting point on the reverse side. The metallic mesh thus formed is energised from a high-voltage, high-impedance pulsed current source.
