The roller (1) comprises a cylindrical frame (2) and tyres (3) mounted along the rotational axis of the roller so that the tyre treads (5) form the roller tread (6). Inside these external tyres are internal tyres (15) which limit the squashing of the external tyres. There are spacers (16) between each external tyre. On the frame, inside at least two of the internal tyres, are second spacers (17). The external and internal tyres are mounted side by side tightly fitted together on the frame. Cheek webs (18) at each end of the cylindrical frame have a diameter less than those of the external tyre and greater than the cylindrical frame. There is a ring (19) on the roller tread between the external tyres.
