The higenamine(1) is prepared by melting PCl5 to CHCl3, cooling, and adding N-(3',4'-dimethoxyphenylethyl)-4-methoxyphenylacetamide(2) solution slowly by stirring at room temp. for 15-20 hours. The reaction product 1-(4'-dimethoxybenzyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline(3) is reduced to 1-(4'-methoxybenzyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroiso quinoline(4) by NaBH4 to obtain final product, higenamine. It shows anti-thrombotic and LPG-inducing shock inhibitory effect.
