A device comprises a roof (1) conforming at least partly to the profile of the user's palate (2) and partially supporting the soft palate, two ribs (5) located at the base of said roof (1) for positioning at the level of the teeth (6) of the user's upper jaw and extending inwards and towards each other on the roof, and means (7) for holding said roof (1) against the palate (2) and for holding said ribs (5) at the level of the teeth (6) of the user's upper jaw. The soft palate is supported by the roof, and the ribs prevent the tongue from moving too far upwards towards the palate. The device thus maintains a sufficient gap between the tongue and the soft palate for the passage of the air breathed in and out and prevents apnoea.
