The appts. includes a laser resonator (100), a pump light source (200), two sets of optics, and a beam splitter (2). The resonator, defining a specific polarisation direction, has a laser medium (1), e.g. Nd:YAP, defining an optical axis. The pump light source supplies a pump light beam vi light conductors (4). The beam splitter, e.g. a polarisation beam splitter, splits the pump light beam into two component beams. The two sets of optics conduct respective component beams to the laser medium. A second harmonic generator crystal may also be provided with the resonator.
