High speed paper-folding station for printed material e.g. books

A paper-folding station (1) for printed material e.g. the pages of a book is equipped with a braking system for controlling the paper (4) as it approaches a pair of centrally pivoted (15) positioning stops (7,8) on a divided surface (5,6). The stops (7,8) are slightly curved to take up an optimum position w.r.t. the paper edges (40,41) in conjunction with their pivots (12) and possess a series of slots (18) which allow suitable sensors to register wariness/deformation during processing. The brake pads (11,12) take to form of brushes which can move in two directions at right angles (A,B) or rotationally (C) controlled by the sensors (9,10,14,15,16,17) during folding by the blade (2) and rolls (3).
