<p>The invention relates to a method and to a system for frequently determining the position of a mobile station (40) in a cellular mobile telephone system, particularly a GSM system. The position of a mobile station in the system is determined by carrying out a simulated call setup, i.e., the call setup is interrupted subsequent to a telephone switching centre (MSC) having received a paging response containing the identity of the cell and optionally timing advance. In one embodiment of the invention, a mobile station (40) is also commanded to connect itself to base stations (44) contained in its neighbour list, whereafter the mobile station sends position determining parameters to a position handler (14), the geographical position of the base station is analyzed from the cell identity and the optional timing advance. The position of the mobile station is presented graphically on a picture screen and is updated constantly after each call setup. The call setups are generated by the position handler (14).</p> |
