In a process to clean water, which has already undergone preliminary treatment, the water is passed through a reactor which facilitates biological treatment. The novelty is that, following the conventional preliminary treatment, the water is passed through a container contg. a filter of floating grains and which is sealed against the ambient air to provide an anaerobic environment, and that the water passes through - 1 filter, incorporating floating grains, and in which pure oxygen is introduced under pressure.
