Cooling and solidifying red hot molten blast furnace slag in metallurgy

Red hot molten slag (3) together with a fuel contg. at least coal (22) is delivered into a reactor (5) with a column (6) of fuel-slag mixt. maintained at a given level (7). While this column moves downwards, the coal and added steam, through utilisation of the heat content of the slag which is cooled down and solidified, are transformed into a fuel gas essentially contg. H2 and CO. The slag with coal ash and the fuel gas (14) are separately extracted from the reactor. Also claimed is the appts. for performing the above procedure.
