The heated straw is compressed to a volume weight even higher than cold-compressed straw. This is effected continuously or intermittently. The hot-compressed straw is made to swell in a mould until it acquires a temperature at which it is so stable that it can be taken out of the mould without shape alterations of the block. The disorderly structure is produced by a loose run of straw, with known mass flow, and using a fan the loose blades of straw are blown into a mould (33) where a compact run of straw is formed with disorderly structure. The straw executes its continuous movement and is cold-compressed further in a vertical direction by a feeder mechanism. Beyond this mechanism is a further feeder mechanism (48) which cold-compresses the straw run in a horizontal direction. The first feeder mechanism comprises two frames (42) adjustable from the outside so that the straw is compressed successively when it is drawn forward through the feeder mechanism. Each frame has a row of rollers (46) which in turn support a belt (49). One roller on each frame has a mechanical drive (45). |
