Use of a cpd. which is both a beta - and an alpha 1-adrenoreceptor antagonist for the mfr. of a medicament for decreasing mortality resulting from congestive heart failure, alone or in conjunction with one or more other therapeutic agents selected from an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, a diuretic and a cardiac glycoside is new.
