The handgrip has a central bore (5) for a current cable (12) connecting the HV supply to the active electrode, coaxially enclosed by optical fibres (7) for supplying the light from the cold light source to the distal end of the electrode, to provide a combined electrical and optical cable. An envelope sleeve (6) prevents rotation of the combined electrical and optical cable relative to the handgrip and is conically tapered at the front end for securing the active electrode.
