The present invention relates to a system for closing/opening the cargo space (1) of a dry cargo ship by means of a hatch cover (4) comprising at least one section and said ship incorporating container guides (6) with stiffening frames (5) mounted above the cargo space. The invention is implemented by mounting on the stiffening frame (5) of the container guides (6) located above the cargo space (1) such guide elements (8, 10) that are capable of forcing the hatch cover to move in an essentially horizontal direction and providing said sections of the hatch cover with guide members (9) compatible with said guide elements (8, 10).
