The invention relates to a windscreen wiper including a windscreen wiper arm (2) the active length of which varies during the wiping movement, characterised in that it includes: - driving means including a first drive shaft (26) given a first alternating rotational movement, and a second drive shaft (34) given a second alternating rotational movement, the amplitude of the alternating rotation of the second shaft (36) being greater than that of the first shaft, - a crank (24) coupled rotationally to the second drive shaft on the one hand and articulated onto the said arm (2) on the other hand, - a member (6) for supporting the arm coupled rotationally to the first drive shaft (28), and - means for coupling between the support member (6) and the arm (2) allowing a translational movement of the arm (2) on the said support member (6) in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal dimension of the arm (2).
